The Hawes and District Gala, first established in 1967 is a not for profit community event geared towards children’s entertainment. The event, now in it’s 50th year, is largely funded by contributions from local businesses and individuals, and is run entirely by volunteers. Hosted at the town of Hawes in the heart of the Yorkshire dales, this event features a whole host of fairground-style entertainment as well as music, trade stalls, competitions, food and drink. The Gala will take place on the 24th of June 2017 . Each year a new Gala Queen and attendant is selected to open the event lead a fancy dress procession through to town, this year Bethan sowerby was selected to be the 2017 gala queen for the 50th Hawes and district gala!
A typical program of events sees the Gala open from midday with the fancy dress procession from Hawes town center starting at 12:30 pm. This is followed by judging of the fancy dress, a magic show, races and tug of war. Attractions may vary from year to year but the Gala strives to put on an exciting range including a number of complimentary features. The Gala draws to a close around 4:30pm and is followed by a Childrens Disco with special guest appearance, from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Market Hall in Hawes for a separate entry fee £2.50per child
